Portugal’s magnificent coastline is washed by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south. It has a small northerly border and bigger easterly one with their only continental neighbours - Spain. The Algarve, (Arabic El-Garbh – meaning in the west), is a narrow strip of verdant countryside running from the Spanish Border on the River Guadiana with essentially one continual, superb beach - to Cape Vincent - 105 miles to the west. With a population of some 350,000 the Algarve, (Portugal 10 million), has only five percent of its total land area. The climate on the Algarve is one of the most stable and pleasant in the world - suitable for all outdoor activities – horse riding, tennis, hiking, water sports and it has some of the planet’s very finest golf courses. With a low crime rate – excursions through the bustling shopping centres in the evenings can be made without any feeling of threat whatsoever – but care must be exercised when driving at any time on the very busy roads like the frantic EN 125. But enough of this – come and see for yourself – it is less than three hours’ flying time from Britain to Portugal’s Faro Airport in the Algarve - you will not be disappointed. Boa Viagem!
